Come on out and wet your paddle on what's supposed to be a sunny winter day with temps in the 50's.
This portion of the Stones River deepens just past the dam making it "paddle-able" no matter what time of the year. The first part of the run has a snappy flow and after that is a cruise down 5 1/2 miles of river. We'll take our time, no rush to enjoy paddling on a cool, crisp day.
Sorry, no outfitters available for rentals.
If you've got a wetsuit, it's a good idea to wear it. If you don't have one, please wear layers with some type of waterproof gear top and bottom. No cotton anything (including underwear). If it has even a percentage of cotton, don't wear it. Wear nylon, rayon, wool, etc.
Bring lunch, drinks and all the usual safety gear.
Randle Branch, our Stones River expert, recommended bringing a spray skirt due to what may be standing waves on the river. If you don't have one please be sure to bring your bilge pump. If the flow is swift, we'll lengthen the distance of the run by taking out at Jefferson Springs instead of Mona Boat Ramp. We'll make that decision in the morning as a group. See you there!
