Gabe has graciously offered to let us do a Lake Rescue Techniques class at his lake front home. (Thanks, Gabe!) If you have been through a kayak lesson or are an experienced kayaker who paddles lakes and are serious about safety, this class is for you. (If you have zero experience, please sign up for a kayak lesson before taking this rescue class.) You will learn how to rescue yourself and how to do buddy rescues mid-lake. This is a hands-on training course, please wear your swim suit.
Everyone will learn self-rescue. For buddy rescues, each attendee will alternate between being the rescuer and the rescuee; everyone will learn how to rescue and how to be rescued. Also, this would be a great time to practice flipping your boat. By the end of this class, you will learn several techniques that will give you peace of mind and build confidence for paddling on lakes.
Kayaks provided for those who have none. Experienced paddlers, we'll need five more boats. Please note in your RSVP if you would bring your kayak. Each participant will be carefully monitored while in the water. I have a limited number of PFDs - if you own one, please bring it. Each attendee will be required to wear a PFD throughout the lesson.
There will be a dry land demonstration with a full explanation and then I will demonstrate techniques in the water. We will take turns doing the techniques in the water.
Lunch and water provided for all.
Please note: Moving water rescue techniques will be scheduled in August.

Additional notes: If the forecast of rain is 80% or greater, event will be rescheduled.
Payments you make go to the organizer, not to Meetup. You must make refund requests to the organizer.
