Last Hands On Lesson for 2009

This location is shown only to members

Member Janie hosts this last four hour session where I will teach at her home that overlooks Old Hickory Lake. The class is limited to five. Bring a dish to share for the indoors portion of the lesson when we discuss basic equipment, what to buy, what not to buy and lots of other things all paddlers need to know such as river classifications and Universal River Signals.

Next we'll take the lesson outside and get in the water. Well, get in the boats where you will learn how not to get in the water! Three different boats will be available for you to try out to see how different kayaks feel and to decide which one you like the best. All gear is provided at no extra charge.

For those who sign up, please check the event the day before or morning of for any last minute changes. If it rains, we will do the indoor portion of the class at a reduced fee. Again, check the site the day before or morning of the event.

What a fabulous way to end this year's season - Janie's place is warm and comfortable, weather was awesome but best of all five new kayakers! Thanks to everyone for making teaching such a pleasure.

Very informative for novice paddler with good hands on training on the water for practical application. The basics are only the first step in learning to manage a kayak and be proficient on the water. Leslie made us very aware that there are many situations to take into account and understand the right things to do. It's obvious the big learing curve will be time on the water with experienced paddlers.
